Tierra Soul Urban Farm & Guesthouse
What is a Farm-Stay
Come stay at our working urban permaculture farm while you visit Portland. Absorb the lifestyle and magic of Tierra Soul. Participate in farm chores, or not. Tour the farm, and get insider access to Portland’s cutting edge green culture.
The Neighborhood
Tierra Soul is located in the fun and hip Mississippi Avenue Historic District ~ a couple blocks from boutiques and coffee shops, restaurants and parks. We are a 5 minute drive, and 10 minute MAX ride from downtown and a 5 minute drive, or 30 min. walk, to the Alberta Arts District. We are 3 blocks from a MAX station and bus stop and also have a few bikes available for your pedaling pleasure!
Check out the TriMet trip planner to arrange your travels to and from the airport or other destination.
The Farmhouse
Large house surrounded by magical urban farm (sometimes we call it an un-farm), Founded by Mama and Papa Arias and their two little ones in Spring 2010. Since then Tierra Soul has evolved into community endeavor. We have had a host of interns and WWOOFers. Together we have tended dairy and fiber goats, ducks (including the famous Hettie Quackers) and chickens for eggs and meat, honey bees and an expanding perennial fruit, flower, herb and vegetable garden. As of December 2011, the Arias clan will be on a sabbatical adventure. While we are out exploring, the guesthouse will be carefully tended by miss Caitlin Murray. Join us for a warm and fun time whether or not you have children. House has lots of communal space to enjoy with a front porch, out-door fire pit, and piano! We also have WIFI and a kitchen available for light guest use during non-quiet hours.
Quiet hours (10pm – 7am) We have guests from all over the world crossing time zones, sleeping children and a deep respect for the rhythm of the sun. We ask that you maintain an atmosphere of quiet and contemplation after 7pm and before 7am. That means you may or may not be able to sleep in past 7am when we get going on farm chores and breakfast. You are welcome to come and go as you wish and stay out late, just consider your noise level after 10pm when you are in the house.

If you do come with children, please respect our quiet hours and supervise them at all times. We ask that you keep sick kiddos contained while in common areas especially with other children.

I fell love with this house, it’s people, and the energy flowing through it. For someone living in a city it is an amazing escape into another reality. Krista and Co. are extremely welcoming and involved in the creation of a sustainable and eco-”friendly” community. Bring your rain boots and an open mind.~ Madeleine, aka Flamenco Lady from New York/Spain
David and Krista are wonderful people and even more wonderful hosts. Their home is perfect for all types of travelers — Mississippi Ave, with all its bars, restaurants, food carts and stores, is a five minute stroll away. The bus into Downtown stops two blocks around the corner. David and Krista know exactly how to run a guesthouse. They give you space and privacy if you want it, but are more than willing to open up their home and their lives to you if you’re interested… and you should be interested. They have a beautiful family and a fascinating way of life. I dare you to come away from your experience at Tierra Soul without being inspired to re-evaluate your own approach to life, food and family!~ Jennifer & Rich Beauman, late summer 2010 guests from Florida
Krista and David were awesome hosts! They have an amazing urban farmhouse happening in the super sweet city of Portland! If you have never been to Portland before, rest assured this is a perfect area to stay in. Three minutes walk from Mississippi Street – a bustling mecca for those who like great food, even better beer and plenty more options for a relaxed night out. You can get a bus two streets away that will take you straight downtown in ten minutes. Very easy. Krista and David will be happy to point you in the direction of anything you might like to know about, or hang about in their house to play with farm animals (outside), be entertained by their adorable kids or chill out on the porch. Not the usual bed and breakfast – better.~ Katie from Australia
What a sweet household! The practical things are that this is in an interesting neighborhood within walking distance of excellent cafes and FOOD CARTS, there’s plenty of parking and its three blocks from the MAX rail which will take you downtown. Close to the airport, too. But its not the practical aspects that make this house so appealing, its the warm, loving interaction of the the family, the kindness and consideration they show each other and their guests. And they have goats, ducks, chickens and bees, how fun is that? I look forward to returning in the fall.~ Jenny from California
